5 Ways To Relieve Pain

  1. Become Aware: Notice your thoughts around pain. What are you saying to yourself? Either write it out or close your eyes and listen to be clear with what you are thinking. Then, notice sensations in your body associated with the thought.
  2. Focus: Refocus on an area in your body besides the pain. A place in the body where it feels better or good and then again notice other sensations all over.
  3. Get Up & Move: Get up and go for a walk. Light yoga also works and is easier than you think. To get the energy in the body moving, breath low in the belly up to the chest and exhale all the way out four times. This helps quiet the mind. It calms the nervous system, but wakens the body.
  4. Laugh: Laughter eases pain by causing the body to produce its own natural painkillers.
  5. Make A Call: Don’t be afraid to reach out for more support and understanding from others. Sitting alone makes pain worse. Reaching out for the right support and tools makes it a lot less.
