Prolotherapy

Treating Pain at the Source

Prolotherapy is a pain management treatment that focuses on treating the underlying cause of the pain. This method promotes long-term health and, in many cases, permanent pain relief by stimulating the body’s own healing mechanisms.

Prolotherapy can be used to treat many conditions, including:

  • Whiplash
  • Facet syndrome
  • Joint pain
  • Arthritis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Sprains
  • Chronic tendonitis
  • Bursitis and tendinitis

The procedure only takes about 30 minutes and is a safe, non-surgical process that doesn’t require a long recovery.

If you are interested in prolotherapy, contact National Spine & Pain Centers today to schedule an appointment with a board-certified pain treatment specialist.

Stimulate Your Body’s Healing Abilities

The prolotherapy treatment is an injection of anesthetic and dextrose that is applied to ligaments, tendons, or joint capsules. Unlike many pain injection treatments, no steroids are used in prolotherapy. This solution helps the body repair its tissues and regrow ligament and tendon fibers. Multiple procedures can encourage additional growth and recovery. Your pain treatment specialist will help you develop a plan that that is suitable for you.

Patients receiving multiple treatments usually return once every two to six weeks until the desired results are achieved. This procedure is not intensive and you can resume your normal activities immediately after each session.

The Results

You may feel some swelling and stiffness right after the injection, but this is very short-lived. Some patients will see noticeable improvement right after the first session, but in most cases, it can take several visits for the gradual effects to be felt. Although it’s a longer-term recovery period, research has shown that more than 80% of people undergoing prolotherapy achieve the desired results. In many cases, this treatment can permanently cure the pain.
