Diego Varela, PA-C, earned his Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Shenandoah University. As a newly certified Physician Assistant beginning his career in interventional pain management, Diego is passionate about providing thoughtful, targeted, and patient-centered care while continuing to expand his knowledge within the specialty.
Diego was drawn to interventional pain management because of the significant impact pain can have on every aspect of a person’s life. He believes that no one should have to miss out on time with family, important life experiences, or meaningful everyday moments because of pain. This philosophy is at the heart of his approach to patient care and motivates him to help patients find meaningful relief while improving their function and overall quality of life.
Diego values taking the time to listen to his patients and understand not only their symptoms, but also how pain affects their daily activities, relationships, and personal goals. He believes effective pain management begins with understanding each patient as an individual and working collaboratively to develop a treatment plan tailored to their specific needs. Patient education and open communication are also important components of his approach, helping patients feel informed and actively involved throughout their treatment journey.
For Diego, one of the most rewarding aspects of working in pain management is the opportunity to help patients regain the ability to participate in the people, activities, and experiences that matter most to them. He looks forward to continuing to grow within interventional pain management while providing compassionate care that helps patients achieve meaningful improvements in their everyday lives.
Outside of medicine, Diego enjoys staying active, exploring new interests, and traveling. His personal interests include snowboarding, running, oil painting, reading, and traveling, giving him a balance of outdoor adventure, creativity, and relaxation.
