Stephanie Clop, MD

An experienced, effective and dedicated physiatrist, Dr. Stephanie Y. Clop joined the National Spine and Pain Centers in summer 2020.

Focused on nonsurgical treatment of acute and chronic pain, Dr. Clop works toward diagnosing the nature and extent of injuries and prescribes treatments aimed at maximizing a patient’s functional outcome and restore them to a pain-free life.

“I always treat the whole body,” Dr. Clop said. “Pain is complex and you can’t just look at one part. You need to incorporate the mental, physical, and biomechanics to maximize function and quality of life.”

Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Clop brings more than 20 years of experience in the physical medicine and rehabilitation field previously working as a physiatrist at Town Center Orthopedics in Virginia and several Puerto Rico-based facilitates including Matilde Brenes Hospital and Ashtar Physical Therapy Center.

Focusing on Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, she completed an internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX, and a residency at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in San Juan, PR. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA and a Bachelor of Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, VA.

“I love working with people and trying to make a difference,” Dr. Clop said. “...When a patient thanks me for giving them their life back that makes it all worth it.”

Her philosophy on medication management is to maximize function and quality of life on the lowest dose possible. “I always hope my patients don’t have to be on chronic medication management and will use all available treatments to relieve symptoms and pain but ultimately my focus is on maximizing my patients’ ability to function and their quality of life,” she said.

When talking with patients, Dr. Clop knows everyone is unique from what motivates them to how they respond to medication to which activities are priorities. “I develop every treatment plan with the patient based on their individual attributes and needs,” she said. “I truly care about each patient and making sure they get the best possible care to help them.”

Away from the office, Dr. Clop enjoys spending time with her family that includes three dogs and six cats they adopted from area shelters. She also likes to work out and watch movies with her kids.
