About

Primary Specialties: Anesthesiology, Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine (Board Certified), Pain Medicine

Helping to make a difference in the lives of patients is what drives Yusuf A. Mosuro, M.D., MBA in his work at the National Spine and Pain Centers. Dr. Mosuro brings more than three decades of experience with him to the practice.

He began his medical career at the College of Education in Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria taking pre-med advanced level courses in physics, chemistry and biology. In 1989, Dr. Mosuro completed medical school at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria.

His first internship focused on multiple areas including internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics and obstetric and gynecology at General Hospital in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. He studied internal medicine at Saint Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD during a second internship.

Dr. Mosuro notes he was drawn to the field of pain management and anesthesiology as a way to help his patients live meaningful, pain free lives no matter their medical diagnosis.

He completed a residency in anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. His fellowship focused on pain management and anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.

In 2017, Dr. Mosuro earned a Physician Executive Masters in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Before coming to NSPC, he worked as a pain management anesthesiologist at Metro Spine/Bellaire Chiropractic in Texas. His previous work history includes as a pain management anesthesiologist at Outreach Diagnostic Clinic in Houston and in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group in Rockville, MD. He has also served as an assistant professor of anesthesiology at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.

When looking toward the future of pain management, Dr. Mosuro is excited by regenerative medicine which offers the ability to heal and regrow cells that are damaged.

Dr. Mosuro sees medication management as part of the larger multidisciplinary approach to treating patients. “If pain is reduced, patients will be able to participate in physical and psychotherapy and other modalities that are sustainable over time,” he said.

The patient, he believes, is always the most important person on the treatment team especially when they are active in decision making and participating in prescribed treatment modalities.

Away from the office, Dr. Mosuro plays ping pong and loves to travel exploring different cultures.
