Q&A: Stephen Krazit, MD

Stephen T. Krazit, MD, MS, graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences before earning a master’s in Human Genetics from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine at New Orleans and conducted an internship and residency in Anesthesiology and Pain Management at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He pursued a fellowship in Pain Medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and is board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
Q: What drew you to the field of pain management and/or anesthesiology?
A: I enjoy treating patients who suffer from chronic pain with the latest advances in minimally invasive non-surgical interventions.
Q: Are there any specific treatments, technologies or diagnostic specialties that you are particularly excited about?
A: I am especially interested in the increased use of ultrasound, transcranial magnetic stimulation, ketamine infusions and other infusions that are enabling us to move toward non-opioid pain management. I stay abreast of all the latest developments and techniques in multimodal pain management so I can offer my patients the treatments that will work best for their specific pain.
Q: What gets you excited about working at NSPC?
A: I enjoy being able to provide care to a wide range of patients suffering from a variety of chronic and acute pain conditions.
Q: What do you enjoy the most about your job? What drives you to do it?
A: I enjoy helping patients by performing interventional procedures that can reduce their pain and help them return to the things they enjoy doing.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time (hobbies, interests, etc.)
A: I like to travel, cook, play with my daughter and spend time with my family. I also enjoying rooting for Notre Dame.
Q: What would you do for a living if you weren’t a doctor?
A: I would be a zoologist or some other kind of scientist in the field of biology.
Q: What is your philosophy about doctor-patient interaction and patient-centered care?
A: The doctor-patient relationship should be professional and every patient should be treated equally with care and respect. Patient autonomy and active participation in therapy should always be encouraged.
