Ann Marie Munoz, M.D., sees patients at National Spine & Pain Centers Dunn, Fayetteville and Lumberton, NC offices where she employs her extensive knowledge in the specialties of pain management and anesthesiology to help patients address their chronic and acute pain through a variety of treatment therapies and minimally invasive interventional procedures.
Dr. Munoz began her medical career in her native country of Argentina before moving to the United States, where she has worked in numerous hospitals and pain practices. In addition to serving as the director of the lnterventional Pain Center at Rhode Island Hospital, she has also held the position of assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Vermont and clinical assistant professor of surgery (anesthesiology) at the Brown University Alpert Medical School.
“I am very excited about new treatments that are becoming available for the treatment of chronic pain, including stem cell therapy and platelet rich plasma therapy,” she said. “These interventions and others allow us to target the cause of pain as specifically as possible so that we can achieve better outcomes.”
Dr. Munoz earned her medical degree from Universidad Nacional de Cordoba in Cordoba, Argentina and performed her residency in anesthesiology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. She then completed a fellowship in pain medicine at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.
“Patients who are suffering with pain need to be treated with dignity, courtesy and respect,” Dr. Munoz said. “They should feel free to express their frustrations, their fears and their hopes with me. My goal is to provide the same care for each patient that I would desire for my own family.”
Dr. Munoz is fluent in Spanish and has served as a volunteer anesthesiologist for an Esperanca Medical Mission to Bolivia. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, writing and going to barbeques.

I felt very uncomfortable on my 2021 visit to this office. Yet, yesterday was a full turn around. I shared with the nurse how I felt about the doctor, and once she came into the room and started talking and examine me, our conversation was extremely thorough, the doctor took time out to explain why things had to be done a certain way! She explained how laws for pain management have gotten strict, and she explained why certain things couldn't be done on the same visit! All patients need to understand the process of pain management. Not just be instructed on what to do, but understand if it's not done they can lose their license to practice. I am a chronic pain patient, who lives alone. I am allergic to all [...] and can only take 1 pain medicine when I have surgery and it can't be mixed, it can't be increased and if decreased it doesn't work. This is an medication is an [...] agnoist. If I take it too many times I get sick if I take it for a long period of time I get sick. So, I don't come to this office for pain meds or anti depressants, because I can't take any of them. I say this because finally this doctor took me serious and now she understands, so one of my medical condition is being treated with a muscle relaxer. I was extremely impressed by this and will be taking it to see if it helps one of my extremely chronic nerve condition. The other assistant will me injections. This is something I have been successful with for many years. I will continue to keep seeing this doctor, because now we have a plan in place to assist me with some pain relief with opioids. I felt cared for and at easy once I left the office. The front desk staff and the nurse are very helpful and polite. These things are important to chronic pain suffers.
