New York Spine & Pain Physicians (NY)

Our History

New York Spine & Pain Physicians (NYSPP), formerly New York Pain Consultants, was founded in 1999 by Dr. Craig Shalmi and Dr. Luis Fandos with the vision to relieve pain and improve overall quality of life through an individualized approach to every patient. Since it was founded, it has become the leading pain management group in Long Island, with 6 pain management physicians and three convenient locations.

In 2013, NYSPP became affiliated with National Spine & Pain Centers, one of the largest pain management practices on the east coast. This partnership has benefited patients by allowing access to better practice management resources and research opportunities.

Our Approach

Our goal is to provide patients with the most comprehensive approach to pain management available. We continually evaluate new and developing diagnostic tools, ensuring that we are on the cutting-edge of new treatments. Dr. Fandos was the first physician in Suffolk County to implant an MRI friendly spinal cord stimulator. Our physicians work together to develop an individualized plan to improve the quality of our patient’s lives.

Using a unique and comprehensive approach in the treatment of pain, I am committed to helping our patients achieve a healthier and pain-free life. – Daniel Kohane, MD

Our Specialists

Trained in some of the nation’s best medical facilities, our pain specialists have their medical degrees in either physiatry or anesthesiology, many sit on advisory boards and serve as advisors in developing standards on best practices. Our physicians are leaders in Long Island pain management community, including Dr. Fandos who is the Director of the Division of Pain Management at Southside Hospital/North Shore LIJ.

Our team of providers have been selected for their compassion and understanding. All are highly qualified professionals who recognize the impact that chronic pain has on one’s life. All have extraordinary diagnostic and therapeutic skills, and reflect New York Spine & Pain Physicians’ attentive, personalized approach to patient care.
