Virgil Balint, MD


Dr. Balint joined National Spine & Pain Centers in 1989 after serving as Chief Resident of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at St. Francis and Mercy Hospitals in Pittsburgh. For the first six years of his tenure with the practice, he served concurrently as the Medical Director at the National Hospital for Orthopedics and Rehabilitation in Arlington, Virginia.

A seasoned interventional pain specialist, Dr. Balint has a well-established reputation for excellence and is recognized locally as a preeminent authority in his field. He has been selected repeatedly by his peers and patients as one of the region’s “Top Doctors” in annual physician surveys compiled by Washingtonian Magazine and Northern Virginia Magazine.

Committed to improving quality of life for his patients, Dr. Balint dedicates considerable time to researching and mastering the newest techniques and breakthrough therapies. He is skilled in a broad range of non-surgical pain management techniques, including fluoroscopic-guided injections, radiofrequency neurotomy, Prolotherapy and a host of other advanced procedures. His ongoing educational pursuits equip him with the most effective methods for treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders.

Dr. Balint has contributed to books and published journal articles, and continues to lecture to the medical community and public on numerous pain-related topics, including SI joint syndrome, spinal stenosis chronic pain, occupational low back pain and interventional pain techniques.

Board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation as well as Pain Medicine, Dr. Balint is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management and a Fellow of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He maintains several active memberships, including the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and the American Academy of Pain Management.

An avid learner, Dr. Balint not only enjoys exploring the exciting field of pain management, but also engages his sharp intellect and curious nature in many other interests, such as photography, traveling, science fiction, classical music, art and water polo.
