Ayesha M. Khan, MD

Dr. Ayesha Khan believes in developing a trusted and personal relationship with her patients and their families.

“Care should focus on not just physical comfort but also emotional wellbeing,” she said. “Every patient is different and requires a customized and comprehensive plan of care based on the patient’s preferences, values, needs, and beliefs.”

Joining the National Spine and Pain Centers in late 2019, Dr. Khan brings a multidisciplinary approach to combating a patient’s pain. “(There are) a vast variety of options at the disposal of a pain physician,” she said, “which can be used to ease the patient’s suffering ranging from conservative to minimally invasive procedures.” She has expertise in a number of procedures such as cervical, thoracic, and lumbar transforaminal epidural steroid injections and radiofrequency ablations.

Earning her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, Dr. Khan completed internships in internal medicine and obstetrics and gynecology at Civil Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, and general surgery at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. During her residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY, she focused on physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Her fellowship studies centered on interventional spine and musculoskeletal medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD.

“Pain medicine is a dynamic, intriguing, and evolving field of medicine which promises to relieve a symptom that impacts every aspect of a person’s life,” she said.

When working with patients to develop an individual treatment plan, Dr. Khan believes in the judicial use of pain medications along with interventional procedures. The goal is to taper patients off chronic pain medications and prevent dependence.

She is driven by her work by the ability to improve patients’ quality of life.

Away from the office, Dr. Khan enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and traveling.
