Avni Gupta, MD

About

Primary Specialties: Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine

Blending medical innovation, evidence-based medicine and compassion to meet each patient’s individual goals is Dr. Avni Gupta’s practice philosophy.

“I care for my patients as my own family members,” she said. “I spend time with them to allow for a thorough evaluation and tailor the treatment plans to fit the unique needs of the patients. I believe that patient education and the establishment of a caring doctor-patient relationship are an integral part of the healing process.”

Dr. Gupta serves as the medical director and physician for the Millennium Pain Center at Unity Point Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria, IL. For the past five years, she has also served as a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry and behavior medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

The ability to improve an individual’s quality of life as well as help them enjoy their daily activities drew Dr. Gupta to the field of pain management.

She completed her medical school in the top 10 percent of her class at one of most esteemed medical schools (Maulana Azad Medical College) in India at University of Delhi. After an internship in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD, she completed an anesthesiology residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and a chronic pain fellowship at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. She was elected as the Chief resident and was awarded “Outstanding Graduating Resident Award that Best Exemplifies the field of Anesthesia” in 2012.

When approaching medication management as part of an individualized treatment plan, Dr. Gupta truly believes in evidence-based multimodal pain management. “As long as medication helps someone function better and reduces their pain significantly, it is reasonable to incorporate medication management in a multidisciplinary pain management plan,” she said.

Dr. Gupta strives to not only reduce pain but restore function and improve a patient’s quality of life. “The happiness on their faces after feeling better is very rewarding for me,” she said.

When not seeing patients, Dr. Gupta enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and learning how to dance.

Patient Reviews

"Every one was very nice I had no problem I like Every one I met"

"I have always been very satisfied with the staff and the care given for any procedure. I also was given hugs by two of the nurses who took care of my husband in the Covid ICU ward. They told me he fought hard and as much as it hurt it was comforting to know the wonderful care he received before he passed away. My heart and prayers go out to you all for your dedication unselfish acts."
