Amy S Kipp, MD

About

Primary Specialties: Anesthesiology, Pain Management

Amy Kipp, M.D., sees patients in National Spine & Pain Centers’ Charlottesville and Harrisonburg, VA, offices, where she develops holistic treatment plans that include interventional pain procedures, physical therapy and medication management.

Dr. Kipp earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and went on to pursue her internship and residency in anesthesiology from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA, where she also completed her fellowship in pain management.

Most recently, she has served as an anesthesiologist at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, where she developed and implemented the institution’s multi-modal pain program. “My work as an anesthesiologist has given me a greater understanding of the acute and chronic implications of pain,” she said. “That experience, combined with my background in pain management, has led me to believe that treating patients in pain requires a sensitivity toward not only alleviating immediate pain but also developing a plan for managing it going forward so that they can resume a sense of normalcy in their day-to-day living.”

Given the ever-expanding range of treatment options, Dr. Kipp believes that there is hope for everyone who suffers from pain. “At this point, we might not be able to ‘cure’ all sources of pain, but our ability to treat it effectively—and in some cases, eliminate it entirely—is what makes this such an exciting field to work in.”

In her free time, Dr. Kipp stays busy chasing after her three young sons, but also enjoys running and hiking. A native of Texas, she is delighted to be back in Virginia, having fallen in love with the area when she was an undergraduate at the University of Virginia.
