Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Testimonials: Back Pain

Lee Porter, Retired
I was referred to Dr. Wagner by my chiropractor to treat spondylolisthesis at L4-5 in my lumbar spine. He started me on prolotherapy and then PRP treatments, which have served to strengthen the muscles and connective tissues supporting my lumbar spine. I can now manage this condition with less pain and shifting of the vertebrae, and with sensible precautions, I can live a normal life. My heartfelt thanks to Dr. Wagner for his patience and expertise in finding the right treatment regime for my back problem.

I was 8 ½ months pregnant in 2007 and I sneezed from a really bad cold and heard/felt a "pop". I went to the ER and they ruled out a PE and sent me on my merry way to have my baby 10 days later. After being uncomfortable and in a fair amount of pain for over 9 months. I decided that something was still wrong. Driving, breathing, sleeping and picking up my infant was all very uncomfortable. I thought I'd just have to live with this pain as all the other Drs and specialists didn't have much to offer me. In fact they thought I was "nuts". It ended up that I had broken my left 9th rib but didn't confirm that until I pushed to find a reason for my pain. Not many people break a rib the way I did and then to have the pain I was suffering from continue for over 9 months. After many tests it was confirmed that I had a "healing fracture", basically I had a really bad break that didn't quite heal normally.

My only real option was to see Dr. Mayo Freidlis at Capitol Spine & Pain. I was open to new and less invasive procedures especially since there were no other real options to help improve my pain. He and Maggie were very certain that this would help me. I agreed and had him work his wonders with this new treatment of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). After one treatment the pain area became smaller and after 2 treatments it was down to a very small definitive area. On my last treatment we decided to wait and watch it as I was trying to get pregnant with #2, even though you can still have the therapy while pregnant. He said that the healing would continue but if I needed to come back for more to let him know. I am now 6 months into my pregnancy and my rib is still feeling very good. I thank Dr. Freidlis for doing this type of research and offering other alternative therapies to patients like myself.
