Joshua A. Thomas, DO
Dr. Joshua Thomas joined Capitol Spine and Pain Center after completing sub-specialty fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Interventional Pain Management. Utilizing a thorough history and physical examination in addition to interpreting diagnostic tests, Dr. Thomas is able to provide his patients with a definitive diagnosis and superior non-surgical treatment options. He has a particular interest in understanding and correcting the biomechanical abnormalities that contribute to the ongoing condition.
Dr. Thomas is highly skilled in a variety of interventional pain procedures, including lumbar epidural injections, radiofrequency neurotomy, sympathetic blockade, facet and sacroiliac joint injections, and musculoskeletal ultrasound-guided peripheral joint, tendon, ligament, and soft tissue injections, among others. He uses these state-of-the-art interventions judiciously along with a comprehensive approach to patient care to maximize function and decrease pain.
Well versed in his field, Dr. Thomas has authored book chapters on topics such as thoracic disc herniations and lumbosacral disorders in athletes. He has been invited to lecture at the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, and Thomas Jefferson University on a variety of topics including the shoulder, ankle, and lumbar spine imaging. For his accomplishments, Dr. Thomas was awarded the Noguchi Medical Research fellowship, which allowed him to study rehabilitation medicine in Japan. Understanding the importance of patient access to healthcare, Dr. Thomas chose to undergo additional study during his medical training and achieved a Masters in Business Administration.
Dr. Thomas maintains several active memberships including the International Spine Interventional Society, American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and the American Osteopathic Association.
In his free time, Dr. Thomas enjoys reading, traveling, and discovering new music. He also keeps stays active and enjoys running and biking.
