Douglas W. Wisor, MD

Dr. Wisor focuses on diseases of the spine and developed an expertise in interventional pain management using fluoroscopic (x-ray guided) diagnostic and treatment techniques. He began his medical career with the United States Army, serving as Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

Upon completion of his military service in 2002, Dr. Wisor joined Capitol Spine & Pain Centers, and later expanded the practice into Fredericksburg and Richmond. His special areas of interest include management of acute and chronic nerve pain, disc injuries, and arthritis of the spine. He is particularly skilled in neuromodulation therapy using spinal cord stimulation, radiofrequency denervation, minimally invasive disc surgery, and thermal annuloplasty. He is also accredited to perform vertebroplasty on painful spinal compression fractures and percutaneous decompression for treatment of lumbar disc herniations.

Dr. Wisor has published articles and lectured nationally on the diagnosis and treatment of various pain syndromes. He has also instructed many other pain physicians on how to perform sophisticated pain management procedures. As a nationally recognized leader in spinal cord stimulation, he is currently one of the few physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians on the National Advisory Board of St. Jude Medical.

Dr. Wisor maintains active memberships in the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and American Academy of Pain Management.

Dr. Wisor, a former college quarterback, was inducted into the Dickinson College Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1989 football team. Today he is still an avid athlete, exchanging his football exploits for golf.
